August 4, 2000: NASA Special Report

In a special report to the American Congress, NASA has revealed the cause of the failure of its last two probes to Mars.

In the detailed report, NASA, working in conjunction with the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Chinese Defence Intelligence Agency discovered the astonishing facts.

The cult referred to as "Temple of the Sun" which, some time ago apparently many of its members committed suicide, actually some how managed to raise the funds to build in secret, a rocket launch facility on one of their compounds, and build a rocket capable of carrying them to Mars, along with the supplies required to establish a base of operations there. The cult members that had "commited suicide" are now apparentlty alive and well on Mars. The timing required to conceal the launch from Department of Defence satellites was perfect. Fearing the FBI would raid the compound on Mars, they set up a defense system that categorized the science probes as a threat, and shot them down.

In a related press release, the Temple of the Sun announced that it had claimed the entire planet Mars for its followers, and no one else.

When contacted by Jumpgate, the FBI said that it was contemplating a raid, indication that The Temple of the Sun may be charged with interplanetary piracy, destruction of Federal Government property, and failing to obtain construction permits. The FBI also indicated that it would co-operate with NASA and the Pentagon, but was not at liberty to discuss any details.
